5th International Scientific Conference on EU and comparative law issues and challenges

EU 2021 – The future of the EU in and after the pandemic”

20-21 May 2021

Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek

The Faculty of Law Osijek at the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek is organising the 5th International Conference on EU and Comparative Law Issues and Challenges, taking place from 20 to 21st May 2021. It brings together multidisciplinary researchers, policy makers, professionals, fellows, practitioners and stakeholders to explore some of the more pressing issues concerning the future of the EU in and after the corona virus pandemic. Research in the field of law and economics has faced major challenges in the midst of the corona virus pandemic. Living and researching in the area of the “new normal” has opened up new areas of interest in every sphere of development of the EU legal system. In the context of changed social circumstances, both in Europe and around the world, there is a need to review the current system of social values, but also to adapt the legal norm to new social needs. The question of how to adapt the legal norm to new European challenges while respecting the unquestionable standards of democracy, the rule of law, the protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms and sustainable development is proving to be an important priority in the coming period.

This year’s conference theme ‘EU 2021 – The future of the EU in and after the pandemic’ will explore future directions for law and economics in EU. The key objectives of the conference are to provide a forum for scholars in the areas of research and innovation policy analysis to exchange ideas, and to present findings across disciplinary boundaries.
